Welcome to the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club Minimize

Sailing at the club is expanding

IOD fleet racingWe are well into the 2010 sailing season and I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather following our long winter! There has been a lot of activity with respect to sailing at the club, but I want to bring members up to speed on a significant development the club is currently engaged in.

Director of Sailing
The core values of our club are anchored on the commitment to sailing which can be recognized by looking at the years of history hanging on the walls and many trophies held within our walls. As you may be aware the Executive at our recent AGM opened the floor to the membership and raised the topic of hiring a Director of Sailing to help the club achieve new heights within sailing, while building upon the rich history currently in place. This proposal of creating a new post at the club is not a new idea, having been looked at in the past as a way to improve the sailing related services offered to the membership.

The discussion surrounding the proposal eventually focused on the numbers. Following the meeting a sub committee was formed and there was a period of investigation into budgeting for this new position, to keep expenses within the finances of the club. I am happy to report that the Executive have approved the resultant budget proposal and are now making great strides towards making this new position at the club a reality.

This new position comes at a good time, since the current format of sailing activities at the club is very seasonal and disjointed. One season rarely feeds interest and activity into the next and the overall sailing atmosphere at the club is in some ways non-existent. The future Director of Sailing will be charged with coordinating and managing year round sailing activities for both youth and adults, and implementing the internationally approved ISAF “Learn to Sail” program throughout the club. Another key responsibility will be to promote the clubs sailing activities and educational programs around Bermuda, with an aim to widen the membership base as we head into the future.

The club is scouting the horizon in search of a suitable individual that will be capable continuing the clubs leadership within the sailing community and adding to our rich historical relationship with sailing. If you feel interested in this position (or know someone who might be) please see the job advertisement and send in your resume!
