Other Regattas

BIIRW is traditionally held in late April or May and has an 70+ year history. Originally created as a spring event between RBYC and the East Coast Clubs such as Indian Harbor and Long Island Sound in Six-Meter and International One Design classes, it quickly evolved into a multi-class fleet racing event.

Recent editions have continued to see the International One Design Class come for a week of racing with other classes, such as the Etchells, RS21 and J/105s participate over a long weekend.

This is an invitational event given by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.

2019 - Bermuda

The Amorita Cup has a long history with RBYC and the International One Design Fleet. The Cup was donated  in 1937 by Frederick M. Hoyt to be presented to the winning team of a team racing event between the USA (originally Larchmont Yacht Club) and RBYC in the 'new' International One Design class.

It was out of this event and the King Edward VII Gold Cup match racing event that the Bermuda International Raceweek was born. The competitors got together to race a team racing event, the match racing event and a fleet racing event. Eventually all three events spun off to be run individually. The Amorita Cup event was won by the Bermuda team consisting of Harry Powell, Penny Simmons, P/C B. W. 'Jordy' Walker, Paul Fisher and Richard Thompson in 1982.

The RBYC, along with the Bermuda IOD Fleet, were happy to extend a challenge to the Long Island IOD Fleet in 2018. Bermuda won.

This event is scheduled to resume in October 2022 in Bermuda.
