Youth Programmes Overview

The RBYC Sailing Academy is an RYA Training Centre and offers serveral on-the-water and on-shore classes/qualifications for both youth and adults. We have an extensive fleet of boats for the junior & youth age groups, including:
  • Optimist (Beginner to Advanced)
  • Laser (4.7 - Radial Rig)
  • RS Feva (Double-Handed dinghy)
  • WAZP
The Academy runs classes based on the Bermuda school terms:
  • Autumn (September - December)
  • Winter (mid January - March)
  • Spring (April - June)
In addition we run a weekly Summer sailing school July & August and weekly classes during school holidays. Open registration for the Summer Programme for the Public starts on April 1, 2023.

2023 SAILING INFORMATION

Easter/Spring Break 2023
The 2023 Easter/Spring Break classes will run in 2 sessions:
  • Week 1: March 27 -31
  • Week 2: April 3 - 6 (April 7 is Good Friday)
The Academy will be running Novice Optimists, Beginner Optismist and Intermediate/Advanced Optismist. The day will run from 9am - 5pm for ages 7+ and 9am - 3pm for Opti Smalls/Sea Squirts. Easter Registrations for Novice and Beginners is OPEN.
Spring Term 2023
Term time sailing takes place between 4pm and 6pm, Monday to Friday, and during the day on Saturdays. The 2023 Spring Term starts April 10 and will run until June 24. The class schedule is typically:
  • Mondays: Optis Beginners/Intermediates
  • Tuesdays: Opti Intermediates/ILCA 4/Foiling
  • Wednesdays: RS Feva/Opti Smalls
  • Thursdays: Opti Advanced/Opti Smalls
  • Friday: Foiling
  • Saturday: ILCA 4/Foiling in the morning; Opti Advanced in the afternoons.
The Instructor Team works with students to make sure they are placed in the best group for their age and ability. Registration link is emailed directly to the parents/guardians. If you are interested in joining the Spring Term or any After School term please drop the team an email.
Summer Sailing Programme : 7 to 15

Registration opens to the Public on April 1, 2023.

We're thrilled to be running a Summer Sailing Programme again this year. You will find not all classes are offered every week. If we are able to add in additional classes will let you know here! We ask that you waitlist for the session you are interested in as we are able to accomodate most children on the waitlist. Feel free to drop us a line if you need more information!

Sea Squirts (5 & 6)

Registration Opens to the Public on April 1, 2023.

The Sea Squirt programme is back in full force the Summer of 2023 with 6 weeks of classes. The ‘Sea Squirt’ Programme is designed for those kids ages 5 and 6 who can swim and a ready to start messing around in sailing boats. Our Sea Squirt instructor team is headed by Nathan Bailey, the Sailing Director and several RYA Dinghy Instructors and helpers who enjoy working with this age group.
 
The goal of the 1-week course is to get your child comfortable in an Optimist. Most kids are sailing in a controlled environment by the end of the week. Emphasis is on FUN! There is a lot of play time in this programme, both on and off the water, along with plenty of time for water & snack breaks this age group is used to. This is a 9:00 am to 3:00 pm programme for the young ones.
